Exclusive Lunigiana food tour in Pontremoli
The sweet start of the tour is at the historic Caffè degli Svizzeri, famous for its Liberty-style atmosphere and traditional cakes, including the local Amor biscuit filled with custard cream.
We continue our journey with a visit to the historical centre of Pontremoli, along the ancient Via Francigena, once walked by pilgrims, merchants and military soldiers. After a stop at the Cathedral of S. Maria Assunta, a masterpiece of Pontremolese Baroque, we continue our itinerary with a walk through the charming medieval lanes up to Piagnaro Castle, home of the Museo delle Statue Stele Lunigianesi. Here we will discover the mysterious prehistoric Statue Stele, statues carved in human shapes and scattered across the Magra Valley.
After the tour, we will move in a farmhouse for a live cooking show, featuring traditional “testi” cast iron pots, for tasting of local specialties such as testarolo (an ancient pasta resembling a pancake) and torta d’erbi (a savory herb pie).
