The heart of the town is represented by the two squares: Piazza del Duomo and Piazza della Repubblica, formerly united and separated in the 14th century by a curtain wall known as the Cortina di Cacciaguerra, of which only the main tower known as Il Campanone remains today. Here we find numerous bars and historic pastry shops, the true guardians of Pontremoli’s renowned pastry tradition.
This is the perfect place to taste some of the delicacies of Lunigiana patisserie, whose recipes are still a secret today like the famous Amor a local sweet cookie.
The tour includes not just food tasting but also the discovery of local traditions and history. We will spend the morning like a proper Pontremolese.
We continue our journey with a visit to the historical centre of Pontremoli, along the ancient Via Francigena, once walked by pilgrims, merchants and military soldiers. After a stop at the Duomo, the splendid Cathedral of S. Maria Assunta, a masterpiece of Pontremolese Baroque, we continue our itinerary to immerse ourselves in the picturesque streets of this beautiful town and then conclude with an aperitif-tasting to discover some of the excellence of Lunigiana cuisine.
